At fifteen years old, Kathleen Madeleine Lagos Pavon traveled from Honduras to the U.S. seeking medical treatment for scoliosis. Healing the Children New Jersey (HTCNJ) arranged for Kathleen to have surgery by Dr. Arash Emani and Dr. Michael Falloon at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital – all of which was pro-bono. The Oplinger family hosted Kathleen while she underwent medical treatment, and provided a warm and loving environment for her to convalesce. “I am grateful to the doctors who straightened my back and to my host family for opening up their home. In the future, I will fulfill my promise to help others in need in the same way I was helped.” Although Kathleen was only here for less than three months she left an indelible mark on everybody she met with her wit and zest for life. HTCNJ is thrilled that she is thriving back in Honduras with her family and friends.
